US ORGANIC SUGAR-PRICES
DESCRIPTION: SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Actions by the Trump administration limiting imports of organic sugar and imposing tariffs are expected to cause the prices of all kinds of organic products -- everything from granola to yogurt -- to rise in the coming months and industry officials worry that could put some food manufacturers out of business. The administration limited imports of specialty sugars in July and have imposed a 50% tariff on Brazil, a major supplier of organic sugar. Since the U.S. produces almost no organic sugar, the result has left manufacturers facing an estimated 34% increase in sugar costs and the bad options of reducing profits, raising prices or halting production.
